International Program on Science Education and Department of Biology Education visited the School of Life Science and Technology, Institut Teknologi Bandung. Mrs. Ernawati Arifin Giri-Rachman, Ph.D and Mr. Indra Wibowo, Ph.D. welcomed the visitation. The study program planned to prepare the accreditation process for international accreditation by ASIIN. Dr. Diana Rochintaniawati and Dr. Eka Cahya Prima as the representative of the International Program on Science Education followed the discussion.
ASIIN highlighted the importance of learning outcome evaluation by the study program. The learning outcome was derived based on the vision and mission of the study program. For certain study programs, we have to consider the subject-specific criteria from ASIIN. The accreditation requires at least one-year preparation before submission. The group of courses must be identified to ease the learning outcome assessment at the end of the semester. The study program subsequently reported the self-assessment report. Other aspects to be improved are laboratory safety and facilities. Safety must be highly concerned during laboratory activities. The number of equipment should facilitate the student doing the experiment in the laboratory sufficiently. ASIIN declared the six standards to be filled during the accreditation. The chapter involved (1) The Degree Programme: Concept, Content, and Implementation, (2) The Degree Programme: Structures, Methods, and Implementation, (3) Exam: System, Concept, and Organisation, (4) Resources, (5) Transparency and Documentation, and (6) Quality management: Quality assessment and Development. To all study programs fulfilled these standards will be accredited within 5 years. The recommendation by ASIIN after accreditation services must be followed up before the next accreditation period.
