Fun Science Classroom: Prof. Janchai from International College,Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University Bangkok, Thailand

Bandung, 11 October 2019

Dr. Janchai from International College,Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University Bangkok, Thailand, gave the guess lecture in Auditorium. The meeting was attended by All IPSE students. Science for fun is important for engaging student curiosity, inspiration, and better understanding. He described the origami engineering, which is now very important for NASA while launching the satellite. The mobile learning can use the mobile application from the Play store, for example the earthquake detector. Todays’ activity can neglect the mobile application. As the modern era, the QR Code is also used for many necessities, such as education, industry, etc.

He said that observation is one of the most important thinks in science education. He demonstrates the use of three paper glasses for a science activity. He poured the water into the glass, but the water was disappeared due to the glass absorption. This activity can arouse the student’s curiosity; the student will ask how does it come from? This also part of the sense of humor in science education. Think out of the box must be trained by increasing the learning experience.

In the second stage, Creativity can be developed by considering five senses like eye, ear, nose, tongue, and skin. He exampled testing the sense of airflow using big and small mouth holes. Earing can be exampled from the bat. Thinking out of the box must be engaged to the student to enrich the students’ ideas. Brainstorming, and Making connection is also part of developing the students’ creativity.

The third step of developing creativity is incubation. Incubation means relaxation. To get excellent inspiration, we have to relax. The idea will be crystallized. The knowledge is the prerequisite before the idea can be crystallized.

The four-stage is creativity development named SCAMPER. Substitute, for example, making the “anything” to be the brand of water bottle mark. When we go somewhere, the people were asked by others. They said, please bring me anything. Combine. They are combining two functions of material into a device. Adapting. You can reshape the watermelon into the cube shape. The noodle stick can be adapted by applying the fan, so when somebody eats the noodle, he can blow the noodle to be more cooling. Magnify. The ancient computer now was adapted as an iPhone. Put the other use. Use one equipment for other purposes. Eliminate. Reduce the cable into the wireless device. Rearrange. Rearrange the equipment from another material.

In the end, He provided the many examples of creative science projects for students such as paper glider, hearing cup, boomerang, gasing, flying project. He implied that science would be attractive if we engaged the students to create science projects.
