General lecture “Understanding Modeling in Science Education” with Prof. Dr. W. R (Wouter) Van Joolingen from Utrecht University

The IPSE Study Program collaborated with the Postgraduate School held the general lecture with the theme “Understanding Modeling in Science Education”. We invited Prof. Dr. W. R (Wouter) Van Joolingen from Utrecht University as a guest lecturer. This event was held at the Postgraduate Auditorium on September 7th, 2018. The general lecture was opened by speech from Prof H Yaya Sukjaya Kusumah, M.Sc, Ph.D as Director of the Postgraduate School and it continued to the main session that was guided by Rika Rafikah Agustin, M.Pd as moderator. In this general lecture, Prof. Joolingen explained about the aims of science education, modeling at school, accessing models in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics classes. “Modelling in science education can be done by giving students the real structure, using SimSketch software to draw molecule or creating stop motion animation. So, they can imagine the processs and can create the model easily”, said Prof Joolingen. Overall, the general lectures run well because the participants were enthusiastic about this topic.
