About IPSE


International Program on Science Education (IPSE) is one of study program under Faculty of Mathematics and Sciences Education UPI. The program is launched in 2009 aims to calls the needs of globally competence science teachers.

In current situation, globalization has an increasingly impact on a broad range of human activities in all aspect of life such as politic, economy, culture as well as educational areas. From the perspective of education, globalization raises a number of challenges and concern, particularly in preparing students as future leaders who have vision of global view to adequately address the demands of an ever-increasing global interdependence.


This is a challenge for colleges and universities worldwide to respond the call with an array of programs and curricular initiatives focused on preparing globally-minded teachers. Faculty of Mathematics and Science Education UPI has responded to the call by developing the International Program on Science Education (IPSE).


To be a leading and outstanding science education institute in Southeast Asia by 2020

The output of IPSE has some competencies as follows:

  • Broad view of international science education
  • Good understanding and skill of science subject, pedagogy, as well as pedagogy content knowledge for junior high school science
  • Skillfulness in teaching science as an integrated science
  • Skillfulness in teaching science using English language
  • Be able to do science research and develop innovation in science teaching


Higher education curriculum is a set of plans and arrangements regarding study materials and delivery as well as the assessment are used to guide the implementation of learning activities in universities. The curriculum includes structured competency standards in core competencies, supporters and others who promote the goals, the implementation of the mission, and vision of study program. The curriculum includes courses that support the achievement of the competence of graduates and provide flexibility to students to broaden their horizons and deepen their expertise in accordance with their interests, and are equipped with course descriptions, syllabi, lesson plans and evaluations. The curriculum should be designed based on the relevance to the objectives, scope and the depth of the material, the organization that encourages the formation of hard skills and personality and behavioral skills (soft skills) that can be applied in various situations and conditions.

P1 Demonstrate pedagogical content knowledge in the field of science education that combines basic theories of education with integrated science content and implements it in the practice of science instruction;
P2 Competently analyze science curriculum, apply innovative learning based on the educational theories and assess the process and results of learning
P3 Master theoretical concepts in science related to education.

3.      GENERAL SKILLS(by the end of the IPSE Study Program, the IPSE student will…)

KU1 Competently apply logical, critical, systematic and innovative thinking in order to develop or implementknowlege and technology that considers and applies human values in line with the field of science education;
KU2 Show independent, excellent and measurable performance;
KU3 Examine the human impact of developments in technology, in accordance with their expertise, based on scientific rules, procedures and ethics to produce a thesis or final assignment (which may include explanations, conceptions, critical design, scentific descriptions) and upload them to the univeristy page;
KU4 Arrange scientific descriptions of research results in the form of a thesis or final assignment report, and upload them to the university page;
KU5 Make appropriate decisions for solving problems in their field of expertise, based on the results of analysis of information and data;
KU6 Maintain and develop networks with counselors and colleagues both inside and outside their institution;
KU7 Be accountable for the results of group work, and supervision and evaluationof work assigned to those who are under their responsibility;
KU8 Facilitate appropriate self-evaluation with work groups under their responsibility, and independently manage instruction;
KU9 Document, store, secure and recollect data to ensure validity and prevent plagiarism.

KK1 Be able to solve problems and develop creative innovations in knowledge, technology and science through interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches;

KK4 Use science and technology to develop science education;
KK5 Competently present integrated science instruction assisted by information and communication technology (ICT) in English;

Teaching and learning strategy are fitted to the characteristics of courses and their contents. Generally, the courses use discussion, group work, problem based learning, project based learning, lectures, laboratory work and field work methods


Our study program use multidimensional assessments including Mid Exam (UTS), Final Exam (UAS), assignments (example: practical report, paper, homework, project etc.) and performance evaluation. We use “Pola Acuan Patokan” (PAP) and “Pola Acuan Normal” (PAN) system form our University (UPI) to determine UTS and UAS evaluation.
